Busseto and the haunts of Giuseppe Verdi
We offer you an itinerary that comprises the area of the Padana plain between the River Po and the Via Emilia: to North West of Parma, this is known as “la BASSA”. We will pause in the hamlet of Roncoles where we visit the birthplace of Verdi and the Church of St. Michael the Archangel where you can see the organ on which Giuseppe played his first notes as a child.
Six km further on we come to the town of Busseto where the young Verdi with the patronage and encouragement of Antonio Barezzi took the decision to further his musical studies. In the historical centre of Busseto are the “Giuseppe Verdi Theatre, the Verdi Museum - in the home of Barezzi, the Franciscan Abbey of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Giuseppe Verdi National Museum in Villa Pallavicino.
