Piazza Duomo (The Cathedral Square)

With its Cathedral, a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture enriched by Corregio’s masterpiece, the painted dome; and the Baptistery, a unique jewel of medieval art designed by the great architect Benedetto Antelami.

No visit to Parma is complete without seeing the Farnese Theatre, a veritable treasure trove; it is a unique example of an enormous theatre constructed entirely of wood. The National Gallery, one of the greatest in Italy, with works from the1200s to the 1900s  it includes the great masterpieces of Correggio and Parmigianino. The Bodoni Museum which houses the immense inheritance left by that great typographer, the Palatine Library  is an expression of the era of Enlightenment with an incomparable collection of books. The Archaeological Museum founded by the Bourbons exhibits a collection from prehistoric times to the Longobarda conquest.

The impressive architecture of this church which some experts attribute to Leonardo da Vinci contains the last great work of Parmigianino. You will be able to visit the museum, the crypt - with the plain and simple tombs of many of the dukes of Parma - and the splendid 16th Century wooden sacristy.

For all lovers of beauty this room, painted by Correggio around 1518, represents a "must" - not to be missed. The illusion created by the tricks of light and shadow, the obvious call of the classical and pagan world, never fails to enchant the visitor.

The Church and Monastery of St John the Evangelist

This is the magnificent Renaissance style religious complex of the church and its monastery.  The dome of this church is another fine example of the work of Correggio, there is also a splendid 15th Century library. An integral part of the Monastery, you can also visit the Speziera, a museum of the ancient craft of the monks, an apothecary where you can purchase creams, lotions and other products.

This stunning neoclassical style theatre built in the nineteenth century by the Empress Maria Luigia is famed for its passionate and knowledgeable audiences, it is still the foremost theatre of our city.

Palazzo Ducale (The Duke’s Palace)

Situated inside the beautiful French style park, conceived and built by the Farnese family it is preserved in its original splendour with rooms decorated in the 16th and 17th centuries.
